I really like the social finance space. Whether it's for stocks (BullPoo, Stockpickr) or financial planning (Wesabe) Major finance sites should have a major headstart, unless they are too cluttered and stuck to 1999 user models, that allow the pureplays to cutnrun.
Stocks are another microchunk that are very glocal ie Locals here primarily trade the ASX. And the locally licensed etrade entity is in a big takeover by the bank ANZ. Wonder if any of the banks with their huge outsourced development and teams working on legacy, crm, security, internet banking etc, will let their online trading teams go near this. In a bull market people like to chatter and punt... and lawyers tend to imagine Viacom meet the anarchist's scenarios needing only to mention one safe word "Advice". Not. Allowed. To Give it. Or Facilitate It.
TechCrunch on Marketwatch who are adding digg like functionality to stock codes, neat : "The predictor is a small widget included on every stock listing page (example). Users are asked whether the stock will move up or down on the next trading day from its current price. Once a selection is made, the overall user votes are shown."
