Given it's Series A round was supposedly at a $100m est valuation (and buyout rumours ranged from a knocked back $750m offer to $2b asking price), I wonder what price Series B was now that google's multi-billion dollar raising wasnt to buy facebook ? (also interesting that Fox Interactive and other investors have just put $13.5m into SimplyHired.com, the Dave McClure meta-job search engine in what Fox call a "unique deal" in that Simply Hired will power job search across Fox Interactive Sites ala MySpace)

Facebook is one model which I think would apply well to "education" centric countries like Australia where there are lots of universities. However, it could also be done within a broader regional social networking service that included "university" attended as a sub-community. (and restricted membership to that group and signed uni's up to officially participate)

The All in One Play would have to be done well like Facebook has, in that a critical mass of .edu students (as well as the unis) would need to be coopted onto service. Facebook succeeds because everyone else at your uni is on it, and unlike myspace you need a .edu email.

In other countries there are differences too in that not everyone leaves the family home to go to Uni (in another state) like happens in America. (which helps explain the demand for a facebook like service where u dont know anyone and r open to hooking up with new people : Not that university does not have a universal element of hooking up - for the "popular" people ala Mean Girls pre Llo skinnydown, anyway ;)

Anyway I laughed at PaidContent's always quick and up to date commentary : "“It has never been our intention to sell the company,” said Melanie Deitch, Facebook’s director of marketing, adding that the latest funding puts the rumors of such a sale to rest. Which of course is a outright lie…it has been shopped around, for sure, so I don’t want to hear “oh-we-were-only-testing-waters” spiel.""

Facebook Business Model is also interesting : "Greylock’s David Sze said the company will eventually turn to developing three revenue streams: local advertisers, such as pizza companies or bookstores that want to post an ad for a local college audience; banner advertisers seeking to reach Facebook’s demographic; and sponsored groups, such as large companies sponsoring an online forum to interact with students."

Regina: To find out that everyone hates me? I don't care!
Cady: Wait Regina, just listen!
Regina: No! Do you know what everyone says about you behind your back? Hmm? They say that you're a homeschooled jungle freak, that's a less hot version of me! Yeah, so don't try to act so innocent! You can take that fake apology, and shove it right up your hairy c...
