hList my Ipod with Video
I'm really digging this early stage wave of classifieds plays and initiatives. All with quite different technical product approaches; Vast.com indexing billions of classifieds listings from dark web databases in cars, jobs and dating; Edgeio going folksonomic (category) broader (infinite) through tens of millions of blogs with RSS feeds, and then there is hListing : The Structured Blogging spec, which has people like Craig Donato from oodle as a co-author (and Tantek's prints over everything) hListings are pretty simple by definition :
"hListing is about an item and what you want to do with it".. It is a "microformat for sharing, searching, and syndicating the information that helps match up buyers and sellers. This proposal follows the common practices of trading sites such as Craigslist, eBay and newspaper classifieds." Also "As in hReview, the concept of a “universal object identifier” is also out-of-scope for this effort. Unlike some of the “product feed” formats under [listing-examples], we avoided specifying any taxonomy for identifying or categorizing listings in favor of tags."
Technically it consists of :
o version. optional. text.
o listing action. one or more tags, suggested set: sell | rent | trade | meet | announce | offer | wanted | event | service
o lister. required. hCard | (fn || email || url || tel).
o dtlisted. optional. ISO8601 absolute date time.
o dtexpired. optional. ISO8601 absolute date time.
o price. optional. text. [should include a floating-point number with optional ISO currency codes]
o item info. optional. (fn || url || photo || geo || adr) | hCard (for person or business).
o summary. optional. text.
o description. required. text with optional valid XHTML markup.
o item tags. optional. keywords or phrases describing the item being offered, using rel-tag
o permalink. optional.
"Creating a listing requires adding transaction metadata":
o Type of transaction sought: whether the lister has or wants an item (sale or rent), a service, an opening, or a personal introduction.
o Dates of listing and expiry. Once taken, listings may be reposted with a modified dtexpired.
o Price has been called out specifically as an independent text field. It can include some terms & conditions.
Love it. We'll be definitely deploying some of this krunk downunder. (note : I still dont have my Black Ipod with Video from Retravision on order thru voucher - maybe I'll be able to get the new one) Ping me classified obsessed to start moving this downunder and globally !
