Newscorp is positioning to keep buying Internet assets, promoting Jeremy Phillips who was the deputy chairman of Ecorp - Australia's leading internet media and commerce holding company majority owned by Australia's Richest Family/Person : The Packers (ecorp was a multibillion public company at one stage) - which localised Ebay (sold back for profit) and MSN with the #1 TV station Channel 9 (which I worked for : the ninemsn #1 portal - btw im still trying to find out if Scoble's "Channel 9" group with the same name was developed after this circa 1997 ??) Jeremy is a very astute numbers and deal cruncher (as is his brother : hey !), among the many McKinsey mafia out there. (ironically of 2 mckinsey people i worked with at ninemsn, one now reports to Bill Gates and the other to Rupert Murdoch, directly - Now they are interesting jobs if you have to get one) Jeremy's fingerprints had been on some of News' M+A, but it seems now that it is official. This is one smart guy with a relentless thirst for deals. hehe. Its not only Yahoo who are scooping the pool. Social Media Scientists, Folksonomy Gurus, Ajax Wizards and all variants of PHP, Python, Ruby people arent going to be the only ones not out of work. Ditto those with media, telco, entertainment and the local library. With IPO's less of an option and acquisitions becoming the new public offering, expect to see a growth in "Corporate Development" roles within successful high growth companies and obviously the GEMAYA posse. Its inevitable there is more serious activity in the $50m-$500m range in 2006. Newscorp/Fox is a buy : "Mr Murdoch, 74, last week appointed 33-year-old Jeremy Philips to run News Corp's internet strategy and armed him with a $1bn fund to buy more sites." 'Buy more sites', like it.
