You gotta like the Technorati Top Level Stats.
Dave Sifry's latest report. In terms of gnoos' equivalent, all you have to do is use the Technorati integer (24 as per home page mascot), calculate ∏ to the 26th decimal and you know what to do from there ! Luckily Australia only has 450,000 blogs in 2005 : but then
39% of google's revenue in 2005 is from outside America. (up from 34% in 2004) So by end of this year Australia should easily have 750,000 blogs. Now technorati's blog finder (read the article/use the product) has 850,000 blogs, or about 3% of the real "blog" market (some say there are 100m bloggers / myspace has 48m members for example but only low % actively blog) Now throw in a 18 month/30% discount factor for Australia (round it off at 2% say) because we havent adopted blogging as much, and presto : Angelina can run some numbers on how big your local country index should be for quality updated blogs !
Anyone out there know how many blogs in England ? (ping me, or to use a sifry term "sping" me !) I've been thinking about the Ashes again and winning them back, one blog at a time. (and heck, Canadians too ! we all speak a non-US English and use the Net !) Technorati summary below :
- Technorati now tracks over 27.2 Million blogs
- The blogosphere is doubling in size every 5 and a half months
- It is now over 60 times bigger than it was 3 years ago
- On average, a new weblog is created every second of every day
- 13.7 million bloggers are still posting 3 months after their blogs are created
- Spings (Spam Pings) can sometimes account for as much as 60% of the total daily pings Technorati receives
- Sophisticated spam management tools eliminate the spings and find that about 9% of new blogs are spam or machine generated
- Technorati tracks about 1.2 Million new blog posts each day, about 50,000 per hour
- Over 81 Million posts with tags since January 2005, increasing by 400,000 per day
- Blog Finder has over 850,000 blogs, and over 2,500 popular categories have attracted a critical mass of topical bloggers
