"if most of the world thinks the Internet is the Hammer, the solution to everything, that is the exact reason why it is not."
It's Saturday there is no football being played in Melbourne or anywhere today until Pies vs Swans interstate tonite. So Melbourne aren't playing due to split round and if I want to see Rye I'll have to get to Dromana. Sandringham (dees 2nds) dont play till tomorrow in Ballarat! (nice vflfooty blog btw) Possibly I'll go to Red Hill. The great thing about local footy is that generally there are prob 12 matches you can watch within a 40 minute drive.
I'm old enough that I wouldn't dream of the billion dollar home run, but if I did get even 5% of the way there, I'd write posts like Marc Cubans on a Saturday morning : "Me, I believe that all internet sites are created equal, that the world has already moved past the Internet as magic to the internet as utility stage. I believe in morning walks, sipping diet peach snapple, the beauty of a jump shot ripping the cords and that if most of the world thinks the Internet is the Hammer, the solution to everything, that is the exact reason why it is not. I believe that there is something far, far better , that will have far more utility to all of us and is on the tip of the tongue of some kid out there somewhere and I will have a blast looking for it and hopefully finding it first, which will be a lot more fun than trying to compete with Facebook or Google."
Having spent most of my week on structured user generated content, the experience of Yelp 4 years in is a case study worth noting (esp in australia where there are alot of players trying to be yelp but not yet with the critical mass esp when it comes to advertiser base/participator) : "Last week, Yelp purged an undisclosed number of accounts after finding that the business owners had swapped positive reviews with other business owners. Yelp also regularly deletes reviews it believes are phony. The move sparked an outcry among local businesses, and has even led some entrepreneurs to band together with thoughts of a class-action lawsuit. Their reasoning is, if they legitimately spend their money and patronize a service, why can't they review it?"
OK I guess I better get on and get busy, one ep of Pot Psychology, get to Rye, find some footy, exercise, all that twitter stuff.... Why not read Duncan Friends don't let friends use RSM Bird Cameron Riley's IQ Alpha or analyse John Allsopp's rip on the iphone dataplan ripoff downunder, which is a pity coz my guess is the iphone on 3.5G nextG telstra will be the fastest iphone in the world (and the only network with proper coverage on Mornington Peninsula) I'll be staying on my $79 unlimited data on the blackberry curve with a certain level of calls i dont make.. Until the iphone has a keyboard i dont care how beautiful the UI is... or I decide to carry multiple phones (iphone for surfing/music, n95/6 for video/photos, blackberry for voice/email would be ideal:) Having lost my compact camera im more in the market for a (@aussieana recommended) ricoh gx100/200 first, or if any1 can pointme towards a compactish (size) with DSLR features...
