Bad time to start a company, though the social networking behemoths have not yet targeted non US markets, which creates windows for serial entrepreneurs or ambitious University agitators. Also, remember that Facebook did a VC round a year or so ago that was also rumoured at a $100M+ valuation - so I guess their investors want a typical VC return of 20 times. BW : "The owners of the privately held company have turned down a $750 million offer and hope to fetch as much as $2 billion in a sale."

I think you ment to say myspace has over 20 billion pageviews a month.

At any rate they will have some serious issues outside of the USA. In english speaking canada Plentyoffish generates around 220 million pageviews a month in a market 1/13th the size of the american market. Even outside of canada the site is generates another 200 million pageviews a month. What i mean to say is there are already mega sites catering to the same demographics in major international markets that will make it very hard for facebook or myspace to expand.
