The Problem : Flickr while still great, has got worse, not better under Yahoo (more downtime, harder to login etc) Further, the new (to be) players in the market (Riya) are focused on a "differentiated" service to use Porter language in a laconic aussie drawl - AutoTagged images, hours to upload, privacy, "consumer complexity" issues, and will probably be bought by time it is launched. (cue : same g-issues as y-flickr)

The Solution : This isnt the smartest startegy I've ever presented, but ("Porter Voice" again) 'there is the opportunity for a low cost, simple to use player in the images market' (that wasnt webshots) Like riffs was a progression on epinions. Scrap the 20meg free vs $20 Pro account, and instead have a fair use policy (eg cant upload 1million images), with a focus on free; My blog doesnt have limit on number of posts. Then let people make money from their images, in the same way bloggers do. (this debate comes and go, but someone will monetise it like revver's trying to do with video) I could take my 5000 flickr page views a day and buy the new Shuffle when it comes out at MacWorld. (my flickr traffic vs blog is probably 10:1)
